The beguiling Chartres Cathedral has stood for nearly a thousand years. Guidebooks and websites energetically praise its harmonious unity of design. Our presentation, however, challenges this common description, arguing instead that Chartres Cathedral’s architecture, as well as its origins and history, are more complex, unexplained, and mysterious than is generally acknowledged.
